Visuddhimagga
PATH OF PURIFICATION · Chapters 12–23 · volume 2 of 2
The Visuddhimagga, “The Path of Purification” — the second of its two volumes. Dhammapāla's subcommentary on it, the Paramatthamañjūsā, stands in the Ṭīkā layer.
This volume holds chapters 12–23: the supernormal powers and the direct knowledges (12–13), the soil of understanding — aggregates, bases and elements, faculties and truths, dependent origination (14–17) — the five purifications from purification of view to purification by knowledge and vision (18–22), and the benefits of developing understanding (23). The closing lines count the whole work at fifty-eight recitation sections: Visuddhimaggapakaraṇaṃ niṭṭhitaṃ.
The Chaṭṭha Saṅgāyana corpus files the Visuddhimagga with the canonical (mūla) texts, but it is not canon; it is translated in full here.
