Kaccāyanadhātumañjūsā

The Casket of Kaccāyana's Roots

SINHALESE TRADITION · volume 14 of 15

A list of verbal roots — the Kaccāyana school's answer to the Moggallāna school's, and to Aggavaṃsa's Dhātumālā. All three treatments stand in this collection, which makes the shelf itself an argument between the schools.

Norman describes it: “The Dhātumañjūsā, which is also called Kaccāyana-mañjūsā, belongs to the Kaccāyana school. It is planned on the lines of Vopadeva's Kavikalpadruma, and was compiled by Sīlavaṃsa about the fourteenth century. The arrangement of root classes follows Kaccāyana, and the author makes use of the Pāṇinian Dhātupāṭha” — and he may have used the Moggallāna school's Dhātupāṭha besides.

About 1300–1400 CE, on that account.

The volume ends with the opening verses of a Sācariyānusiṭṭhā parisiṭṭhaparibhāsā (CST4 paragraphs 479–494), which break off after the fifth.

The volume holds the Kaccāyanadhātumañjūsā (CST4 paragraphs 1–478) and an incomplete Parisiṭṭhaparibhāsā (479–494). Added 7 October 2026.
